New Playground Coming to the Southside of Spencer Park; Old Structure Removal Begins After August 4th

The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department has announced that a new playground will be installed during August and September. First, removal of the Spencer Park south playground will begin during or after the week of August 4th. New playground equipment will then be installed in later August through early September. The goal of the Parks Department is to be able to use Live United Day volunteers to spread playground safety surfacing to complete the playground on September 12th .
The current playground which was originally built in 2003, will be removed, except for the swings. This playground has been determined by trained personnel of the Logansport Parks & Recreation Department to be in fair condition, and requires several items to be replaced to remain in compliance with industry safety standards. Parks Maintenance Staff will be removing the equipment themselves, saving the community the cost of hiring a demolition company. All demolition work is weather permitting. Parks Administrator Janet Fawley requests that the public keep out of the designated construction area until the work has been completed.
The new equipment & its installation is being paid for with 2024 Parks General budget dollars and the general obligation bond which City Council approved earlier this year. This is part of an ongoing effort to provide improved services at Spencer Park including the rehabilitation of the Eel River Shelter, an improved public access ramp from the Eel River, 3 new picnic shelters, and new pavement throughout Spencer Park. Besides the playground, scheduled work also includes the addition of a new water line throughout the park, and a new storage facility that will house the holiday displays for Christmas In the Park.
